“Allegro NFS Server version 6.3.3 works well for me on Windows Server 2003 R2 SP2 and completely addresses my needs! I am in need of an NFS solution for this old server platform that plays nicely with VMware ESXi for backups and this is the first solution I’ve tried that works!” CP – USA
“To be honest, I didn’t expect the workaround for a Windows bug, as it was clearly not a NFS server issue. This is great commitment from your side and we do appreciate it.” LR – USA
“Before downloading Allegro NFS, we played with Omni’s XLink NFS, SSC DiskShare, NFS Axe, LABTAM ProNFS, Microsoft Services for Unix, and we did not succeed in using any of them. Complex setups, services that do not start correctly, a lot of bureaucracy and endless tweaks. We are a reputed aerospace company that uses the most modern technology in CNC machines to manufacture the most modern solutions in the aerospace industry. With the old NFS server solutions, we often times had problems that used to cause communication breakdowns between the machines and our DNC system, placing at risk the whole communication structure of the CNC controls and the NC program database. The old NFS solution did not support more than 35 exports, beyond this value, the NFS daemon was shut down unexpectedly and the machines lost communication, often times at 1 A.M. when the administrators were not here. Using Allegro NFS, we were able to establish a solution that allows uncounted exports, with robustness, safety and simplicity. We took 15 minutes to configure and test 41 exports, with safety and efficiency. Congratulations Franz Inc. for building a practical and affordable software solution. That made the whole difference for our Aerospace company. Thank you!” DS – Brazil
“I just took this new job and they were running Hummingbird NFS on NT to share files with some Linux boxes. What I loved most about Hummingbird was the way it would make one machine lock up and the other blue screen on boot.
Switched to the lisp (Allegro NFS) one and wow. Faster, much more stable… Allegro NFS has given me one less migraine.” JS – USA
“Exelente. Simple y poderoso. Hace lo que tiene que hacer de la manera que uno desea. Otros productos caen en el eror de querer ser mas sofisticados logrando solo que el usuario se canse de ellos. Buen Trabajo !!!!” MR – Peru
“My current evaluation of your product indicates that it works quite well. It was a snap to setup (had it running in less than 5 min). The realtime visual logging also is a tremendous help. Also, the ability to set the umask also helped to make setup simple. Trying to use XLink Omni-NFS was a 3/4-day excercise in absolute frustration without success. My only current reservation is that Allegro NFS does not yet appear to support NFS v3, so r/w buffers are limited to 8192B. I am still considering using your product even with this limitation.” Mr. L – USA
“I’m a regular computer user, no important guy at a big company. But, i’m pretty proficient at linux/windows and i’ve been trying to get Slackware installed on my laptop through my Windows XP machine with NFS.
I’ve been working on this for weeks, tweaking, changing settings, etc. I started off with a third party NFS server, and all i would get is errors. Can’t find host, can’t find path, etc.
I then tried SFU (Services for Unix) Made by Microsoft. I assumed this would work, as it IS Microsoft, wouldn’t they know how to do it? No. All i would get is permission errors, not to mention the cryptic snap-in that didn’t have half of the options i had to set through the command prompt. I gave up, it refused to work.
I then tried Omni’s XLink NFS server. It gave me errors, and it would crash. Refused connections. Useless program.
I then tried Allegro. It installed in seconds, i configured it in seconds. and literally within SECONDS on installing it, my linux machine found the server, could read the files and was on it’s way to installing. IT WORKED IN SECONDS. After weeks of futile effort.
I am now able to complete my install thanks to a program that is written well, and WORKS!
GREAT PROGRAM! Thank you.” JH – USA
“Since we now have tested your product, and it is found to meet our needs, we would like to start using it in our commercial systems.” KB – USA

“I’ve tested your NFS server under windows 2000, and it is true that it works pretty well.” JMG – France
“Yesterday I installed Allegro NFSd on my win2000 platform and XFS on a dos-System connected to the server. [Everything] works fine!” CWO – Germany
“After some trauma trying to install SuSE from the local network, I have some information that may help future installers. For future searches, I should include that I tried installation over FTP, SMB (Windows Share), TFTP and HTTP. All were met with “Bad server response”-type messages. I am using Windows 2003 Server.
I installed an NFS Server (http://opensource.franz.com/nfs/) which was small, easy to set up, easy to configure and easy to run. Well done at franz.com!
At the first attempt, when I pointed the SuSE boot CD at NFS on the same machine, it all worked.
Best of luck for anyone else attempting to install SuSE from a local network.
You have really helped me out of a hole with Allegro. Thanks very much. I am sure my experience will help others attempting to join Windows and Linux. I’ve posted a note to two groups. ” BB – UK
“I have just discovered your NFS server, and we are currently evaluating it. So far, it looks very good. We have been using a proprietory NFS server, but we are not very happy with its performance and reliability.” AL – UK, Chief Engineer.
